Fear of public speaking is said to be the third biggest phobia in this country after fears of dying and flying. Yet business owners should be using every opportunity to promote their business especially talking about it.
Two of our members, Lisa Moore of Fit for Moore and Fiona Monson of Solvency Solutions, have given a range of talks about their businesses and actively look for opportunities to speak. They have been supported and encouraged in improving their speaking skills by being members of Lewes Speakers Club.
Lisa says “The Speakers Club is a brilliant way to try out new ideas for talks in front of a supportive and encouraging audience. Each speech receives a brief written review from everyone present and a formal three-minute evaluation by one member. All criticism is constructive so you can work on improving the content or delivery of your speech as well as the little unconscious things that you have no idea that you do but can be so distracting for your audience whether that is constant “ums” and “ers” or madly waving windmill arms. There is also the opportunity to video and review your talk.”
Fiona adds “This is a great time to get involved with the Club because we have introduced a new learning process called Pathways which allows members to choose between 10 different development programmes to focus on whichever skills they most want to prioritise. I have chosen Dynamic Leadership to enhance my work in dispute resolution by growing my negotiating skills whilst Lisa has chosen Effective Coaching to allow her to progress her Coaching Business including delivering Live events and Training.
Members can progress at whatever speed and to whatever degree they feel comfortable.”
