Borde Hill’s 17th annual Sculpture Exhibition will transform the historic garden into an outdoor gallery alive with figurative and abstract works in bronze, resin, stone, metalwork, stained glass and ceramics. It will include a stunning installation called Aquapoise, by international sculptor Angela Conner, in the formal lily pool in the Italian Garden.
The sculptures will be strategically placed throughout the garden with the Elizabethan house as a backdrop, enticing visitors to wander and appreciate an extraordinary mix of art whilst exploring the renowned plant collection that has put Borde Hill Garden on the map.
A notable celebration of art and sculpture, the exhibition showcases works by both established and up-and-coming artists. It offers a unique art experience set within what Country Life has described as ‘One of the country’s truly great gardens’.
Angela Conner says she was delighted to be commissioned to make a water sculpture for Borde Hill Garden.
‘Aquapoise visibly and clearly demonstrates balance,’ she says. ‘For me, this is reflected again and again in the balance of nature, which surrounds you when you walk through the garden. My work is always about using natural forces – in this case the collection and discharge of water – and the force of gravity. I always want the movement of my sculpture to be easily understood by anybody who views it, rather than using some complicated, computerised mechanics.’
Borde Hill Garden will continue the tradition of providing great family days out by once again producing the popular and engaging Kids’ Sculpture Exhibition Quiz.
