One of our members, Lucy Pond of Clarkes Office Supplies in Haywards Heath, runs her own Christmas charity called the Aidan’s Christmas Dinner Project.

In memory of their son Aidan, Lucy and Simon set up the Christmas dinner project in the summer of 2014 having met with staff from Rockinghorse and the Alex about the idea, which was born from their own experience of spending Christmas at the children’s hospital in Brighton the previous year.

Aidan Pond was tragically diagnosed with a rare genetic disease called mitochondrial disease at just one year old. Sadly there is no treatment or cure for the disease and Aidan passed away at the Alex on 1 March 2014. As part of a legacy for Aidan, Lucy and Simon’s determination and support from Rockinghorse has seen them raise over £6,000 to date towards the Christmas dinner project for the 50 or so families that spend Christmas each year in the Alex. Hampers are also going to be given to parents with babies being treated at the Trevor Mann Baby Unit (TMBU).
