IT’S MAGIC PROVIDES FANTASTIC OPPORTUNITY FOR YOUNG MUSICIANS

The Central Mid-Sussex Schools’ CIC ChoirThe Central Mid-Sussex Schools’ CIC Choir and Orchestra made their debut performance at the Schools Aloud concert on Thursday evening.

It’s Magic provided the children with an exciting opportunity to perform in front of a live audience on a professional stage and it was an experience that they all thoroughly enjoyed and will have fond memories of.

The choir is formed of children from the 20 schools across Haywards Heath and the surrounding areas and ably led by the talented Josie Quin they provided a spectacular rendition of some popular music including Rhianna’s Titanium and Rolling in the Deep by Adele, before leading the crowd in a joint sing along.

The junior orchestra was formed at Easter and this very young group of musicians have worked incredibly hard and under the expert guidance of conductor Mike Wood played a series of pieces including Pachabel’s Canon and Half minute waltz.

The Central Mid-Sussex Schools’ CIC has been established to create opportunities for children from across the 20 schools in Haywards Heath and the surrounding area. For further information please visit their website www.centralmidsussexschools.co.uk

HAYWARDS HEATH VET HOLDS EVENT FOR RESCUE ANIMALS IN AFGHANISTAN

Mews MascotHaywards Heath veterinary practice The Mewes Veterinary Clinic held an open day on Saturday 13th July to raise money for Nowzad; a charity that rescues suffering animals in Afghanistan.

The event invited the residents of Haywards Heath and surrounding areas to come along and explore the practice, as well as donate to the Nowzad charity.

Throughout the day there was plenty to keep everyone’s mind off of the blistering heat including animal demonstrations, a family of hedgehogs and Brin; a dog rescued by Nowzad in 2010.

Julia Mewes, owner of The Mewes Vets says, “The event was a great success. We had a fantastic turnout and raised £300 for Nowzad whilst having lots of fun.

“We were slightly concerned that the weather was going to be an issue. But it turned out to be nothing that lots of refreshments and a paddling pool couldn’t fix.”

Nowzad was created by Royal Marine Sergeant Pen Farthing in 2006. Whilst stationed in Now Zad, a war town in Afghanistan, the sergeant realised that it wasn’t just humans that needed support.

Brin was amongst the dogs rescued by Sergeant Farthing and the British Army. He was branded a hero in 2010 for saving the lives of two soldiers by preventing them from stepping on a land mine.

Julia says, “Brin was definitely the celebrity that everyone turned up to see. There were even people who attended that had come to visit him for the second time.

“Brin is a great example of the fantastic work Nowzad does. As well as rescuing dogs from Afghanistan, the charity also rehomes the animals and makes sure they’re ready to be reintroduced into society.”

During the event The Mewes Vets held a grand raffle. The prize was £200 worth of pet food and has been awarded to ‘Gem’ Lawson.

Throughout the day visitors were invited to make small donations for portraits of their pets and guided tours of the practice.

The Mewes Vets was established by Julia Mewes, a registered veterinary surgeon, in 1996. It has since become recognised for its ‘one pet, one vet’ policy that guarantees animals will see the same professional on each routine visit.
