The BIG LUNCH is taking place in Haywards Heath for the second time on July 7th.
Organised by Sussex Oakleaf and hosted by The Yews on the corner of Boltro Road and Muster Green, this is an event created by the Eden Project to encourage as many people across the UK as possible to get together with their neighbours for a few hours of community friendship and fun.
Last year’s Lunch was a great success with more than 80 people sharing in the music, performances and bring-and-share food . Members of the HHDBA are warmly invited to come along and join in this year with Yews User Groups and the whole community on July 7th from 1.00pm to 4.00pm .
July 1st is also The Yews (Haywards Heath) Community Partnership’s second birthday, another reason to bring the community together in celebration. It was on this date in 2011 that West Sussex County Council transferred the management, operation and financing of the Centre to The Yews (Haywards Heath) Community Partnership, a charity set up specifically for this purpose.
CHARITY COLLECTION AT SAINSBURY’S ON SATURDAY , July 13th

Members are cordially invited to Haywards Heath Town Council’s Neighbourhood Plan – Business Breakfast on Thursday 4th July 2013 – 7.30am – 9.00am at Haywards Heath Town Hall, 40 Boltro Road, Haywards Heath.
Haywards Heath Town Council invites you to a consultation event on the retail and business chapter of the draft Haywards Heath Neighbourhood Plan.
In line with powers given to Town/Parish Councils under the Localism Act 2011, Haywards Heath Town Council is writing a Neighbourhood Plan which will govern the growth and development of the Town over the next 20 years. Once adopted this document will act as a strategic planning tool, and will be attached to Mid Sussex District Council’s District Plan.
The Neighbourhood Plan will include a strong emphasis on economic growth to support an increase in housing within the Town and across the District. The Neighbourhood Plan must align with strategic policies of Mid Sussex District Council’s District Plan (outlined in their Economic Development Strategy), which are high level policies that can be adapted to meet local needs and circumstances.
In light of this the Town Council wishes to validate and obtain views on six areas/issues that it feels will support the business community and which the Town Council proposes to base its Neighbourhood Plan policies on in relation to the retail and business section of the plan.
The business breakfast on the 4th July will include short presentations on:
Background to Haywards Heath Neighbourhood Plan (Town Clerk)
Mid Sussex District Council Economic Strategy (MSDC Officers)
Haywards Heath and District Business Association’s view on the Neighbourhood Plan process
Haywards Heath Town Team’s view on the Neighbourhood Plan process (Chair – Town Team)
Questions will be welcomed after the presentations with a further opportunity to comment on the policy areas the Town Council is looking to include in the Neighbourhood Plan.
Please RSVP by Friday 28th June 2013 – Places are limited and will be allocated on a first come first served basis.
Help Belvoir Lettings celebrate their new business getting off to a ‘flying start’ by taking part in their charity balloon race, in support of St Peter and St James’ Hospice.
Buy a balloon to fly – perhaps in memory of a loved one, and help raise money for a great cause at the same time.
Entries cost just £3 in advance, for a chance to win a fabulous Kindle Fire HD, as well as tickets to see Peter Andre or Katherine Jenkins in Haywards Heath in July.
Balloons will be released from Victoria Park during the ‘Schools Aloud’ concert on Thursday 18 July and the Kindle Fire will be won by the owner of the balloon that travels the furthest distance during the two week race period. There will also be a prize for the person who finds the winning balloon and returns the label.
Plus, Belvoir have teamed up with It’s Magic Events to give you even more opportunities to win! Everyone who enters the race in advance will be placed in a weekly draw for the chance to win one of three pairs of tickets to attend either Peter Andre or Katherine Jenkins’ concerts on 19th & 20th July. So, the earlier you enter the race, the more chances you will have to win!
After the success of last year’s record breaking 39 hour 20 minute zumbathon, this year some members of HHDBA will be taking it easy this year by only doing a mere 12 hours!
Starting at Clair Hall between midnight on Sunday 31st August and finishing around 1pm on Monday 1st September, the event promises to be a real party atmosphere. If you can’t face a full 12 hours then anyone can join in by doing as little as 2 hours.
Hosted by the “Zumba Queen of Lindfield”, Esther Featherstone, funds raised this year will go towards the Chestnut Tree House Children’s Hospice, the only Children’s Hospice in Sussex.
TimelessTime is sponsoring the Innovation of the Year Award 2013. The Business Matters Awards are run in conjunction with The West Sussex County Times, Crawley Observer, Mid Sussex Times and Sussex Express culminating in a gala black tie dinner on 26th July at which TimelessTime will present the Innovation Award to the winner. Commented TimelessTime’s Sue Berry, “When judging we will be looking for a company or an individual who is able to demonstrate novel approaches that have facilitated the growth of their firm”.
Innovation takes many forms. In the early days of man’s evolution a stone fashioned in to hammer was innovative. The spinning looms of the industrial revolution allowed products to be made more efficiently than by hand production. Today innovation tends to often be computer based. As Sue continued “We will be looking for a solution which brings a fresh approach to service delivery, product development or marketing”.
